Pass/Not Pass Policy

Certain courses offered in the academic units may best be graded by a "Passed/Not Passed" grading scale.

The decision to use "Passed/ Not Passed" will be determined by the course/program faculty. Course syllabi will indicate the course requirements, and if a student performs satisfactorily in a “Passed/Not Passed” course, a "P" will be recorded in the Academic Record. Failure to perform satisfactorily will be recorded as an "NP". Receipt of a "Passed" on the grading scale will not be included in the calculation of the grade point average.  Receipt of a "NP" on the grading scale will not affect the grade point calculation. The NP credits will not count as Earned Credits but will count as Attempted Credits and be factored into the Incremental Completion Rate for the student.  These credits do count toward meeting the credit units required for graduation. Other grade related policies (e.g., withdrawal deadlines and assignment of "W" or assignment of "I" for incomplete) apply to "Passed/Not Passed" classes, as well.

Only clinical, capstone, and independent study courses may use a pass/fail grading system. Approval of the programmatic specific curriculum committee and the compliance department is required before a course starts to utilize the pass/not passed grading system.

Students who receive a “NP” grade in a course must re-take the given course within two terms of the grade being issued. “NP” grades will also count against students in regards to the two “F” and Failed Courses policy.
