PT 706 Ethicolegal Issues in Healthcare and IPE Collaboration

This course examines current issues and trends in the healthcare law, ethics, and policy. Specific topics include ethical principles and theories, government payment benefits and policies, HIPAA and privacy laws, fundamentals of insurance and managed healthcare, and policy considerations for access, cost, and quality. Students will build upon knowledge of APTA Core Values, Code of Ethics, and Guide to Professional Conduct in addition to CA State Practice Act when analyzing ethical, moral, regulatory, and legal duties in practice. Students will explore advocacy at professional and societal levels through the identification of APTA legislative priorities and communication with legislators. This course will serve as an introduction to Interprofessional Healthcare where students will have the opportunity to learn from and work with students in other programs. This course will conclude by debating professional topics that are at the forefront of physical therapist practice.
