CMHC 505 Foundations of Clinical Mental Health and Counseling

Students will become knowledgeable regarding Clinical Mental Health Counseling practice settings, counselor functions, and counseling services available in their communities. Students will develop an understanding of: the diagnosis and treatment of mental and/or neurodevelopmental disorders; provide case management across various systems of care including outpatient, inpatient, and aftercare services; the ability to conduct a mental status exam, biopsychosocial history, and multiples assessments for the purpose of treatment planning; techniques and interventions for prevention, treatment, and recovery plans across a broad range of mental health issues; and, strategies for advocating and promoting resiliency between and among persons with mental health, behavioral, and/or neurodevelopmental and neurodivergent conditions. Course delivery methods for teaching and learning include online, blended, and face to face modalities.
